Welcome to David Boyle's Personal Fundraising Page!

Thank you so much for your support of this truly amazing organization that gives children in Uganda a chance to have a family and a support network throughout their entire lives.

As the faculty/staff leader of this trip I am doubly blessed, not only do I have the opportunity to meet and help care for the wonderful children at the Malayaka House, I get to do it in the company of a truly outstanding group of young men and women from Champlain College.  The students participating in this trip display a maturity and commitment  to service well beyond what one would expect from young adults in college.  We live in an age where we all have the ability to share in other cultures and experience the richness and diversity that they have to offer.  I look forward to what the children and staff at the Malayaka house have to teach me about life in Uganda, it will be an experience that I will carry forward throughout my life.

Thank you for your support.

What is the Malayaka House?

The Malayaka House is an orphanage in Lunyo, Uganda.  It was established in 2005 by Vermonter Robert Fleming with the rescue of one child, a girl named Malayaka.  Since then, the organization grew as supporters found more Ugandan children in desperate need of medical attention, proper nutrition and a place to call home.

Now, more than 40 children live there.  They go to school and have opportunities for vocational training.  Five women, known as Aunties, run Malayaka House.  Their work includes managing several micro-businesses in farming, crafts and food production as well as raising the children.

Too often, the reality in Uganda has been that children are victims of poverty and disease. The vision of Malayaka House is to give these kids a future, and help them to develop skills to support themselves and be productive members of Ugandan society.

Who We Are:

We are 12 people from Champlain College in Burlington, Vermont – 10 students and 2 faculty/staff.   This May, we’re very excited to be heading to Malayaka House for two weeks!  This trip is part of service learning programs at Champlain, in which students expand their horizons, learn about world cultures, and make meaningful contributions around the globe.  We want to help at Malayaka in any way we can, assisting the Aunties with childcare, in the kitchen or on the farm.

Fundraising Goal:

We’re seeking to raise at least $7,500 and have two goals in mind.  The first $3,750 would be a gift to Malayaka House.   This is Champlain’s fourth service trip to the orphanage, so as an institution, we know first-hand about the work they do. Your contributions make it possible for the children at Malayaka to be fed, clothed, educated and loved.

In addition, we’re raising money to reduce travel costs, which are considerable for our students, all who are raising their own funds.   The cost per student for the trip is about $2400.  If we raise an additional $3,750, we can bring down those total costs about $600 per student.  Your contribution will help us get there.

Thank You!
